Dear Community Member,
When I moved to Stowe 19 years ago one of my first stops was the new Swimming Hole. As a high school swimmer and water polo player, I was totally stoked to find a pool in this beautiful mountain town. For me swimming has always been an integral part of my life for fitness, mental health and recovery. The water is my comfort zone.
Two years ago, I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Needless to say, my life changed overnight. Stripped of my ability to be a surgeon was devastating enough; but on top of that I lost my ability to work out and swim due to my weakened state and altered immune system. Incredibly and gratefully, I am on the rebound and can think of no matter place to jump start the next phase of my recovery than the Swimming Hole.
As a physician, a father and community member I feel extremely fortunate to have this facility in our town. The Swimming Hole is first class in every way. From the essential learn to swim programs teaching Vermont kids a life-saving skill to the competitive swimmers, adaptive swimmers and those recovering from injuries; this is a critically needed venue. For me personally, it was always a place where Jake and I connected to get a workout in and share a few laughs.
With the onset of COVID, the Swimming Hole staff quickly rose to the challenge and exceeded expectations to assure a safe and friendly environment that has proven effective during this pandemic. The pool, fitness rooms, workout area and locker rooms were properly adjusted with extra ventilation and thoroughly sanitized to adhere to the new protocols. In fact, the Crystal clear pool water is the COVID killer treated with the double action of Chlorine and Ultra Violet rays. This alone has given me the necessary level of confidence and comfort to make the plunge back into the pool.
As a community member, I urge you to join me in donating to the Swimming Hole to ensure that one of our greatest assets for physical and mental health stays strong in Stowe. Also make an investment in yourself and commit to join “The Hole” and safely boost your fitness to the next level.
With gratitude,
Bryan Huber, MD
